Extra large Art Deco Fulham Pottery urn by Constance Spry
Extra large Art Deco Fulham Pottery urn by Constance Spry
Wonderful pair of extra large unglazed Fulham pottery urns with glazed inside to hold flowers in water. Designed in the 1930s by the famous British florist Constance Spry, made by Fulham Pottery, circa 1950s, UK. Signed.
Constance Spry considered this a perfect shape for cut flower arrangements and designed them in a wide variety of sizes.
Constance Spry was an educator, florist and author who revolutionised the world of flower arrangement. She was an artist rather than a florist and her ground breaking designs were fearless: she took from hedgerows, woods and ferns, even fruit and vegetables if she considered them appropriate for the occasion. Her Mayfair establishment supplied flowers for both the Queens wedding and the Coronation. Spry was also a creative cook and invented ‘Coronation Chicken’ for this event in 1953.
