Eight silver-rimmed glasses by Dorothy Thorpe
Eight silver-rimmed glasses by Dorothy Thorpe
As seen in 'Mad Men'. Early-1960s water glasses with silver rims.
Dorothy Thorpe was a west-coast artist/designer specialising in glass and plastics. She shot to fame when Clarke Gable came across her glasses and ordered some for himself, sparking an immediate demand among his glamorous friends such as Grace Kelly and the Shah of Iran. Even at the height of her popularity, Thorpe never went into mass-production. Recently, her trademark drinking glasses have been the glass of choice for Don Draper and his colleagues in the hit show, 'Mad Men'.
